TOP 5 GLIDING LOCATIONS – AUS

EXPLORE THE SKYS

We’ve narrowed down the Top 5 Gliding Locations across Australia to help you soar the skies in style.

NSW | BYRON GLIDING CLUB

This club boasts an amazing beachside location allowing for picturesque gliding over beaches, blue oceans and green valleys. The club predominantly flies self-launching gliders (Similar to the Schleicher ASK 21 Mi Gliders up for auction!). They are located in Tyagarah Airfield and their members fly every day (weather dependent).

NSW | BATHURST SOARING CLUB

GLIDING LOCATIONS 3

Bathurst is the home to one of the largest glider clubs in NSW! Being surrounded by such open fields it provides for some great long glides aided by the thermoclines that are often spotted. Created in the 1960’s the club has lived on through the 130 current members. With launches using the aero tow method and the club’s two tug planes, you can rise up to great heights for long flights! Flying out of Piper’s Airfield in the outskirts of Bathurst the club is really ingrained in the small community!

The Waikerie Gliding Club is a highly known and respected club in Australia and the list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning it! Featuring thermals all the way up to 16,000ft there is no surprise that they regularly host national, state and club competitions. With the club holding multiple cross-country records any glide here is set to be one smooth and scenic journey!

WA | GLIDING CLUB OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Gliding location - blog

The gliding club of Western Australia is the second oldest gliding club in Australia! Established in 1944 they have been building a strong social community during the long history. The club focuses on Cross-Country flying due to the flat wide open spaces and strong thermal activity with little turbulence (long treeless cross strips!). This club is a great flight and would be highly recommended to anyone visiting Western Australia!

NT | NT SOARING CLUB

NT Soaring features a unique perspective that can’t be experienced at many gliding locations anywhere! They are lucky enough to fly over Australia’s iconic red dirt making for an amazing view and landscape for a glide! Along with this, the large stretches of outback mean there is lots of wide-open space for the perfect soaring conditions. Definitely worth checking out for the view alone!
